600 Metric Tons of Ice Found on the Moon Can Support a Base

It was discovered last September that ice exists on the South Pole of the moon and also water was detected by NASA’s LCROSS on the same area. Recently NASA’s Mini SAR radar equipment which hitched on an Indian’s Chandrayaan-1 lunar orbiter discovered that there’s 600 million metric tons of ice that exists on the moon’s North Pole. NASA scientists believed that this huge amount of ice can be used as drinking water and fuel (separate hydrogen and oxygen to produce rocket fuel) if a base was made on the moon. The latest federal budget nixed Constellation planned to send astronauts back to the moon on year 2020 and they might focus on finding the huge ice deposit that exist. Even though Mars is NASA’s priority as of now, the discovery of abundant ice on the moon might be next on the list.
