A Blogger’s Role: What We Should Do and What We Can Do (A Repost)

I just want to repost this article, I felt glad when I saw that this article was in the “Recognitions Page” of Jehzeel Laurente, my mentor. He is the site owner of Jehzlau Concepts. I hope my fellow bloggers can benefit and learn something from it.

What is a blogger? Why do he blog? What is his role? These factors are the three primary reasons that I consider before I post (but I didn’t consider them before). I still remember two years ago when my good friend Jehzeel Laurente (blog owner of Jehzlau-Concepts) convinced me to do blogging. At first all I want is to earn from it, basically that was my main reason and it might be the same to many bloggers. I always ask him about what to blog and I keep whining about my blog’s statistics. About a year ago, my blog statistics have few visitors daily and that made me feel like a failure. I also whine about my Google Adsense revenue, I was so disappointed when my income is just $2.15 on the first year. There was a time that I want to stop this stuff, but unnoticeably something changed. There was this period of enlightenment (haha Like Buddha) on me when I do this blog hopping. I have read different posts, posts like my whining and some posts that answered my questions. From that point, I changed my vision on my blogging.

What is a Blogger? What should he post?

Jehz had a post on his blog about “What is an Influential Blogger?” this post just pushed me to strive harder. His post tells it all, if you read it, I hope you do, you will be inspired of the thoughts he shared. This is my favorite part of what he wrote.

A blogger

“An influential blogger is simply someone who can inspire and motivate others. Someone who can make you reach your goals, someone who can make you pursue the things you want to do, and someone who can keep you moving forward with aplomb and grace of a running deer in the prairie. There would be no use denying a fact as obvious as that.”

And for my definition of what a blogger is: A blogger is someone who is true to himself, someone that don’t fake his own emotions, reactions and principles in life. He posts something that is worth sharing, though it might be ridiculous to some people. What I mean is that you should be responsible on what you post; let’s accept the fact that we cannot please everybody. We think and act differently and it’s our freewill if we react on something. A blogger should be ready on different comments or reactions, he should be firm on what he believed in, and must be open-minded if he encounters comments that don’t agree to his opinion. I still remember last week when I posted about a reality show (BIG BROTHER’s BAD MOVE), that’s the first time that some visitors dislike what I said and some were happy that finally there was someone that have the same thoughts about it.

For me, the hardest part of being a blogger is how to handle different people who visit your site, I came to a conclusion that a blogger should be flexible enough, in terms of accepting different comments, especially when someone will tell you that you can’t say something about anything (I did encountered this). Open-minded but firm on your principle, sensitive and reliable.

There’s two tips I remembered when I was on my research on how to blog effectively:

- * Respect the community that surrounds the blog. Every single blog on the internet has its own community. This community has its own unique rules as well as expectations of behavior within the blog. Most of these blogs do not have written rules, but that does not mean that they are without some kind of guidelines. It is important that you know what these rules are, and that you follow them.

- * Leave strong comments, but keep in mind that strong comments are really in the eye of the beholder. Expand on points that have already been brought up in the post, giving examples of how they are working. People tend to be incredibly fond of case studies, as they are capable of making points easier to understand. Try not to use one of your websites however, because you want to look like you are contributing rather than simply advertising.

NOW…..

What is a blogger’s role?

A blogger can influence many people. His post is his tool, and this tool can make someone think positively or negatively. For example, Jehz influenced me a lot, and as I read different blogs, the authors of the blogs I visited also influenced me.

A Blogger can be a HERO

Recently, the Filipinos suffered from typhoon Ondoy, as I do my usual blog hopping, I saw different sites, I felt glad when I saw something common on the blogs I visited, and that is all of them showed their eagerness to help. Some posted all the hotline numbers that the affected persons should contact, some posted the Bank Accounts for those who wanted to give donations. Some bloggers gave a link for the live feed of weather monitoring. We can be hero in our own different ways.

A Blogger can build a new Nation

Build a new nation

I noticed this on Nuffnang Philippines, when I logged in, there was this survey, and it’s a little bit something like who you will endorse in the upcoming election. There’s a list of politicians who will run on the 2010 election, and you will choose one. At first I saw this as a chance to earn, basically they will not have that survey if they don’t see an opportunity that they can benefit from it. That’s my impression about it, but suddenly I realized that through this survey, we can already know who will dominate the endorsement in the blogging community. For example, imagine, the number one blogger in this country will endorse a certain politician, write a blog post about him and tell what this politician’s profile is. Readers and visitors of that blogsite will be influenced, why? First, the reputation of the one who endorse that politician, if many people believed in him, believed me his endorsement will have a bearing on his readers. So it’s our duty to choose the one who we think is BEST to govern this country.

A Blogger is a Public Servant

This is a little bit the same to my point on “a blogger can build a new nation”. The internet reaches almost all areas of the world. Blog post plus internet plus goal to serve will result to something very beneficial. This point I am saying is also the same to “a blogger can be a hero”, service is a kind of heroism, don’t you agree? We all know that bloggers nowadays can influence his readers, with this kind of power, we should be aware of what we can do.

For now this is what I can share, I hope you like it and I hope you will be inspired. Remember, “The blog post is mightier than the sword”. Haha

A lot of people start blogs with the whole intent of earning additional income, but if you may notice, those very same blogs are the ones that do not last nor do they ever find a niche market. Why? Because there is simply no passion.

If you simply write because its a job for you, then stop and take note. Like everything else, passion is what separates and drives you to do your best in everything, and yes, that includes blogging.

i agree with you, you know, if earning is just the goal of a blogger, yhis blog will not work effectively, being money-centered will just make him/her feel stressed.by the way thanks or dropping by and thanks for the comment ^_^

An efficient and an influential blogger can touch a reader’s life in just a split second or just simply make them think and take those thoughts by the heart (yuck cheesy) hahaha.

Great entry pare! Ang lalim nyo ni Jehz.
