Anime Review: CLAYMORE

The story began when Teresa of the Faint Smile (upper right), the number one ranked claymore went to a village where several Yomas try to invade it. There she met a young girl that Yomas abused several times. This girl followed her wherever she goes even though Teresa doesn’t like to be followed. At first Teresa thought that the girl just followed her because she taught that she was her savior, but the real reason of the girl is to comfort her. From that moment Teresa learned that she has someone that she will live for. She named the little girl, Clare.

On the next village, Teresa beat Yomas again and decided to leave Clare even though she doesn’t want it. Unfortunately, when some bandits knew that the Yomas on that place was already gone, they tried to invade it. Teresa while traveling saw the bandits and she noticed that those bandits were heading on the city where she leaved Clare. There she saw Clare, unconscious and was captured by a bandit. She lost her temper and even though it is their organization’s rule that they should not kill humans, she slashed every single bandit on her path. That’s the start of Teresa’s betrayal to the organization.

On Teresa’s execution, instead of giving up, she even slashed several claymores so that she would still live. She decided to leave the organization and decided to take care of Clare.

The organization was so eager to kill Teresa, that’s why they asked the claymores from rank two to five to do the job. Priscilla, Irene, Noel and Sophia were the said claymores. They unleashed everything they have against Teresa but they still failed for they were no match on her ability. When Priscilla (upper left) the ranked-two claymore could not forgive what Teresa did to her, she released all her power and suddenly she couldn’t control it anymore, she awakened. Claymores are half-Yoma and half-human, and when they reached their limit, they turned to “Awakened Beings”. These beings are so powerful, and because of that Priscilla killed Teresa and all other claymores, but except one person, Clare.

Clare brought Teresa’s head and asked the member of the organization to put Teresa’s blood and flesh into her body and be a claymore to revenge Teresa’s death. This is the start of Clare’s journey to a bloody path to find Priscilla.

The animation’s fighting scenes are great but really are violent. Too much bloodlust can be seen. As I watched it, I can say that this is one of the greatest animations I have ever watched. I can’t wait to watch the second season.
