Last Saturday, I watched the season 2 of the anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. It was a very good anime, containing 25 episodes, it has a good story plot and it was a little bit not suitable for young children because of some violent content. I have watched the anime from TV5, but I can’t complete the whole series because of my work so I bought a DVD haha!

Actually I haven’t notice that the DVD I bought has a season 1 of the anime, I just noticed it when I have already finished season 2.

The story is about Lelouch Lamperouge, a prince of the Holy Britannian Empire, who was exiled by his father Charles zi Britannia. He has a sister named Nunnally, who became a governor that implements world peace. Lelouch wanted to create a new world for Nunnally. In order to do that, he became Zero, a leader of the rebellion composed of the people in Area 11, the name of the defeated Japan. He saved the Elevens (name given to the slaves in Area 11) from the hands of the Britannian Empire, these people were convinced by Lelouch to join his forces. He even convinced some of his enemies like the Chinese Federation, and the Black Knights to join him on his quest. During the rebellion, different members of the Britannian Royalty try to capture Zero, but none of them succeed because Lelouch’s thinking is really great. He was very much advance in tactics and strategy, he even put himself in a difficult situation and serve as a bait. His Geass helped him a lot in different danger, even the time he was already captured; he had already plotted something that will make him escape from the Britannians.

Lelouch has a Geass, also known as The Power of Kings, it was a power that will make you obey what he commanded once you looked into his eyes. It is represented by a bird-shaped symbol which glows red when active.

But having such power had caused him harsh consequences. He had sacrifice many of his loved ones, just like what happened to Shirley, one of his classmates in Ashford University, Rolo, his brother that saved him so many times. Rolo has a geass that manipulates time but in return his heartbeat will stop, he used it several times to save Lelouch, that caused his death.

The battle scenes were so much similar to Gundam Wing and Magic Knight Rayearth. They have these powerful new robot weapons that looked like mobile suits. For me it really looked like a combination of Gundam Wing and Magic Knight Rayearth.

The whole anime is full of mysteries that were later revealed in the end of the series. I will not tell it here, watch it, I might spoil the thrill.

Lelouch Lamperouge
Lelouch Lamperouge is the title character and protagonist of the series. He was born as Lelouch vi Britannia, the Eleventh Prince of the Britannian Imperial Family and seventeenth in line for the throne. His father is the Britannian Emperor, Charles zi Britannia, and his mother was Marianne vi Britannia. He was sent to Japan as a political hostage for questioning his father’s cold regard for his mother’s assassination and the crippling of his blind sister Nunnally. When Britannia invaded, he went into hiding with his sister, taking refuge with the Ashford family. Seven years later, he obtains an ability known as Geass, from C.C., which allows him to compel others to behave as he wishes. Seeking to build a better world for his sister, he pursues the destruction of Britannia under his masked alter-ego Zero too.

Suzaku Kururugi
Suzaku Kururugi is Lelouch’s childhood friend and son of Japan’s last prime minister, Genbu Kururugi. He is both a secondary protagonist and antagonist of the series, aligned against Zero’s Black Knights but nevertheless intent on changing the Britannian Empire for the better. He claims that achieving results by wrong or illegal methods is meaningless, wanting to change Britannia from within. Suzaku is an Honorary Britannian and part of the Britannia army, later becoming the pilot of the experimental Knightmare Frame Lancelot as a member of the R&D Division. He later falls in love with Princess Euphemia, who is murdered by Zero. In the second season, Suzaku is granted a position in the Knights of the Round by the Emperor for his capture of Zero. His title and rank is Knight of Seven. Suzaku desires to become the Knight of One, a status that will allow him to rule Area 11 by his choosing.

C.C.
C.C. is the immortal girl who bestows the power of Geass upon Lelouch under the condition he grants her greatest wish. She oversees Lelouch’s activities and occasionally assists in his plans in order to make sure he remains alive to fulfill their contract but eventually comes to care for him.

Nunnally Lamperouge
Nunnally Lamperouge is Lelouch’s younger sister. Injured in her mother Marianne’s brutal assassination, she is wheelchair-bound and blind from psychological trauma. It is on her behalf that Lelouch pursues the destruction of Britannia and the forging of a peaceful world. Following her return to the Imperial Family in the second season, she retakes her birth name, Nunnally vi Britannia, and is at her own request appointed Viceroy of Area 11.

Kallen Stadtfeld
Kallen Stadtfeld is a Britannian-Eleven girl who goes by her Britannian name when attending Ashford Academy, where she pretends to be ill to explain her prolonged absences. She believes herself to be Japanese at heart and prefers to be known by her birth name, Kallen Kouzuki. Kallen is a member of a Japanese resistance cell led by her brother, who died in the first episode, and later joins Zero’s Black Knights. She is the group’s most talented pilot and on par with the Knights of the Round. She pilots the unique Guren Mk-II. Her devotion to Zero is unmatched among the rest of the Black Knights.

Rolo Lamperouge
Rolo Lamperouge is introduced in the second season as an assassin posing as Lelouch’s brother, placed there to observe Lelouch following his memory rewrite at the end of the first season. Rolo pilots the Vincent Prototype, and possesses a Geass power in his right eye that allows him to temporarily freeze the subjective experience of time for all persons within a given range. But whenever Rolo uses this power of his, it stops his heart for a beat or two. He is manipulated by Lelouch into supporting the Black Knights and seems to become dependent on Lelouch over time, treasuring a locket given to him by Lelouch on his birthday and always referring to him as “brother”.

In the end Lelouch succeed in his quest on taking revenge to the Britannian Empire. He beat all those who opposed him, the United Federation he founded gained control.

The ending is unique, it was very dramatic. On his grand parade, Lelouch saw someone wearing the Zero mask and suit, this Zero attacked him and stabbed him in front of the crowd. He fell and slid to where Nunnally was, he died beside her. Nunnally touched the hand of Lelouch, with her power to know the truth by touching someone’s hand, she knew who was the masked Zero was and she knew why Lelouch died in that manner.
