Nokia started releasing smartphones with Symbian as their chosen platform, this OS helped them lead the mobile industry that time. Then in 2007, it seems that Nokia finally faced the nightmare they couldn’t avoid, Apple. Yes, Nokia was dethroned since the first iPhone was unveiled, Apple became the top smartphone vendor in the world.

This year’s second quarter was fruitful for Apple, they have shipped 20.3 million iPhones while Nokia shipped 16.7 million, according to reports this was 34% lesser than the shipment they have on last year’s second quarter. Apple’s Android leads the race, maybe because it has several manufacturer supporters unlike iOS. Nokia have these upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices, they expect that they can elevate their sales because of these. Well, that’s how business works, you really have to show the difference between your products and prove that you offer the better one.

Toshiba unveiled their newest 8 megapixel CMOS sensor, a 1.12 micrometer CMOS image sensor which has the capability of improved back-side illumination (BSI) in terms of imaging performance. The BSI capability of this CMOS overcomes the miniaturization which is a problem for smaller pixels, so there are no degraded images. Not only that, it has the smallest level pixel size with fascinating image sensitivity so no loss of image quality is guaranteed.

This CMOS is designed to smartphones with 5MP to 8MP, high pixelled smartphones with smaller body dimensions.  Through the BSI technology, they squeeze in 8 million of this 1.12 micrometer image pixel to a ¼ inch sensor, creating a sensor with high level of imaging.

The sampling of this CMOS will begin at the end of this month and expected to be mass produced at the end of this year. Toshiba aims to have a groundbreaking enhancement in portable digital technology.

The Courtesy Dialer products have this  system they call as the IVR ( interactive voice response). With this, customers can access the information they need through different menu options as well as an option to talk with a customer agent if they have other inquiries. On the other hand, the predictive dialer is best for advanced outgoing or outbound services. It has a matching system wherein a customer or a prospect will be directly transferred to the service agent that is best for the inquiry. This system can also detect automatic answering machine, that’s why calls are connected to the service agents when answered by humans.

The two systems or products made them successful to hit what they aim, customer satisfaction and increase in customer loyalty.

Masafumi Masamoto, Executive Vice President of Sharp Corp. in Japan, stated in a conference that they (Sharp) are one step closer to 3D displays. It was confirmed that Sharp Corp. in Japan will now join the battle of the 3D TVs. They will start selling 3D-capable LCD TV’s in Japan this summer, they believed that 3D TVs will be the next growth driver in the industry.  They are proud of having the first “3D TVs that will use the four-primary-color technology, which utilizes yellow on top of the three conventional primary colors of red, green and blue, enabling the TV sets to offer brighter, more vivid images”, but to you need to wear special glasses in able to watch. Sharp Corp. will join larger rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Sony Corp., and Panasonic, however, Panasonic and Samsung already released their TV models while Sony plans to start in June. Sharp did not confirmed how many units of the 3D LCD TVs will be produced but they plan to boost their sales with it just like the recent target they hit, they have successfully achieved their sales target of 10 million units of LCD TV.

Quad/Graphics announced that they might buy World Color Press Inc., formerly known as Quebecor World. This company prints magazines such as Sports Illustrated, US Weekly, Reader’s Digest, Rolling Stones, Times and Cosmopolitan. Quebecor filed for bankruptcy in January 2008, but before that, the intent was already to clear to them that the company might be bought by Quad/Graphics. The deal was set to be closed this coming summer, with the amount ranging to $1.3 to $1.4 billion. If the deal will push through, this will make Quad/Graphics the second-largest commercial printer in North America, and the rival of R.R. Donnelley & Sons.

Joel Quadracci, Quad/Graphics’s chief executive officer, will lead the new company as chairman, president and CEO. It is also speculated that the future Board will be comprised by six current Quad/Graphic directors and two World Color directors. Quadracci will lead the merged company that has 30,000 employees worldwide that can help generate $5 billion annually.

The phone that have intriguing Tweets yesterday finally has a name. The Nexus One was revealed yesterday by Google employees that used Twitter. The Nexus One was believed to be Google’s ‘iPhone’–a pure Android handset straight from the imagination of the Android developers.

Google might released it early 2010, as early as January, and they might market the Nexus One directly rather through any wireless carrier partnership. They will also sell it online. If this unit will be GSM-based, unlocked, they might work with T-Mobile or AT&T networks. This Google phone has specifications and customized properties that only Google has dictated. They want it to be uniquely Google-designed.
