After my disappointment on the result on Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Finals, here comes another annoying TV show I really don’t like. Accidentally, I saw the official launch of Pinoy Big Brother last night and that ruined my mood. Why am I reacting like this? Ok, I will tell you why.

Two years ago, I have a post which was published on October 15, 2009 titled “Big Brother’s Bad Move” and the story goes like this:

There’s this new couple assigned for a weekly task, and it is about pretending not to be a couple inside the house. What’s the task? The wife will have a fake husband… a new housemate and he will pretend that he is the real husband. They have agreed on the task, and Big Brother wanted it to look more convincing. How? They should act as if they were real couple and all of these were seen by the REAL husband.

Flashback: The real husband had an affair with another woman when his wife was still in Spain. That made their relationship weak, and the wife lost all of his trust to him. I guess with this kind of task, the real husband will know the feelings of his wife during those days when he was cheating on her.

There’s this part wherein the so-called “pretending couple” were on a date inside the house, and guess who the waiter is? You’re right, it’s the real husband. What will you feel if you see your wife with someone, doing stuffs only couples normally do? And you have to withstand the pain just to fulfill the task and win that million peso prize. What kinds of people are entertained because of someone’s hardship?  When I saw that episode I asked myself, “Those days when the real husband was cheating, was it televised? Is it really right to make him suffer this way? Should he learn this way?”

Am I over thinking it? I guess not! For me it is clear that it was too insensitive and a clear proof that Christian virtues were neglected. Big Brother is like a god inside the house that once you can’t pass his task or test, you’ll be evicted. Now tell me, is that your kind of game?

Fine, I get it! PBB is a reality show, the house mates, the whole production staff and the management had an agreement and honestly I did get the point of that task. Should I stop caring because of that? Have we forgotten that the PROGRAM WAS TELEVISED ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!

This was seen by all ages, let’s be real and let’s face reality. We are no longer in the era that the young ones are sleeping when it’s eight in the evening. When I say young ones, am I just pertaining to kids, toddlers? How about teenagers? Then you’ll tell me that the parents should always keep their eyes on their children because it is their responsibility and I agree with you in that aspect. But wait, have you thought of this, these parents have work to do…on weekdays… and most of the time their children are left at home. Have you forgotten? There’s this time slot in this another TV station where it was shown live and it was not shown at tale night, if I’m not mistaken it’s around 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

Going back to the story, I just felt happy when the real husband can’t take it anymore, he confessed to all his housemates. Even I will do the same thing, it might be a test or a task but it’s very insensitive. I pity those housemates who were involved and please don’t tell me that reminding the viewers that the program is rated with “PARENTAL GUIDANCE” is enough. I think the producers, writers and staffs should be more sensitive, if they really treat viewers as “Kapamilya”, “Kapuso”, “Kabarkada”, or “Kapatid” (kahit anong channel ka pa). Also, I think MTRCB should have their eyes on shows which probably might show some insensitivity, I know they have guidelines.

By the way, this is not a “BLACK PROPAGANDA” on PPB, it’s up to you if you want to watch it or not. I’m not saying that it’s purely annoying. I just hope that the same incident will not happen again. I just can’t get over with that incident because that made a big impact on me. My apologies to those people will not like this article, I’m sharing an experience here and giving my honest opinion. I’ll respect what you think so please respect mine.

“Dude, you inspire me.”

I started this draft last June 26, 2011, but I only have the title. I don’t know why I can’t start composing this piece, I can’t think on how to start even though several ideas came to my mind. Then last Saturday while I was updating my blog’s Facebook fan page, I saw this video clip from the talent search called “The X Factor” and saw Chris Rene’s performance. Everything comes at the right place and at the right time and I think Chris is the instrument for making me write this article.

Who is Chris Rene? Chris, 28, is a trash collector, living in Sta.Cruz California and a father of a two-year old boy. He just got out from rehab he’s been there for 70 days. According to him, he started smoking weed at the age of 12 or 13, when he was 15 he started drinking beer and became addicted to cocaine and amphetamines. Now that he was out of the rehab and ready to go on a straight path he wants to fulfill his dreams for himself, for his family and for his son…”I wanna be on stages, singing for people, making money.” said Chris.

Sometimes we just have to roll the dice. On his live audition at the “X Factor”, he chose to sing his original composition, he even made the sound for it… it’s a total package but yet it’s a gamble. We all know that in singing contests most contestants have to choose a song which is well-suited to their voice. It’s very rare that an own composition and first time to be heard by the audience more importantly by the judges can make an aspiring singer succeed. But Chris did the unthinkable.

At first when he was asked about the title of his song, he said “Young Homie”, the  audience laugh a little bit and the judges look at each other… a sign that they doubt if they will like it. Chris bravely rolled the dice and never got distracted. It’s showtime!

The judges as well as the whole audience were so impressed on his performance, and you know what happened next? All of them gave Chris a standing ovation, the highest form of respect and appreciation a performer will receive.

He managed to roll the dice… he took the gamble and win in the end. I suddenly recall this quote, “If you don’t try you’ll never know if you can do it”. I also love this certain statement by Chris when he was on interview, he said…

“There’s always a chance, there’s always a choice. Life is too precious to waste.”

One principle in Newton’s Law of Motion states that “In every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction” and Christopher Lao is the best epitome of this principle. Yes, the video became viral, and the netizens reacted in different ways. The “hate page” that appeared in Facebook already reached more than fifty five thousand “likes”, this just means that 55,000 people hated what he did.

I know how and what he feels, but as we always say, “Think before you Act!” In fairness to Christopher, he is only human “tao lang” as we always say, it’s natural to get angry, to burst when you have reached your patience’s limit. I still salute him even though I honestly think that he did a stupid thing, why? Because he apologized, he thanked those who helped him and obviously, he did what is best for him and to his family. The past few days have been very disheartening for me and my family. As you know I have been a subject of a viral video that showed my helplessness during a trying moment. As it stands right now, I have several hate pages in Facebook and Twitter with hurtful and derogatory messages attacking my person. The reputation that I built the past years has been besmirched. A bad day has now turned into wounded feelings and sleepless nights for me and my family.

I have been silent the past few days as I want this to go away soon but not before saying sorry and thank you to people who matter.

I would like to apologize for my behavior that was seen on nationwide television and now on the internet. It was unfortunate that I was caught on camera immediately after an overwhelmingly stressful mishap.

I would like to again sincerely thank those who braved the flood to help a distraught stranger like me. Their selfless act reminded me of how dependable Filipinos are in times of crisis.

Lastly, I would like to thank my family, friends and all of those who showed empathy, consideration and support throughout these trying times. You have given me strength and courage to rise above and be a better person.

After the very long screening on the nationwide search for the next Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Winner, finally the people have chosen Marcelito Pomoy. Out of the 12 finalists and two wild card public’s choice winners, Marcelito, the man with a voice of a woman (and also of a man) dominated the competition. At first, three top contenders were announced, they are the Happy Feet, Freestylers and Marcelito Pomoy.
