Here’s another surprise! I know you are familiar with my Blogger Quotes but most of them are in Tagalog. This time I decided to make Bloggers’ Proverbs in English so bloggers from other countries can relate and understand them. Aside from that, a commenter suggested that putting images with my proverbs , might help to make it more appealing and probably might go viral (I’m hoping). Thanks for the suggestion sir, you know who you are and you are right, they look better than the previous editions. As I checked my Facebook wall this morning, I saw another celebrity video posted, some categorize it as a scandal… and it is now going viral. I don’t know what exactly I felt, but one thing’s for sure… I don’t like it, so I didn’t share it, I won’t repost it. Am I pissed off because of the video? NO! What made me feel angry is I can’t see any importance of sharing to public someone’s disgrace.

After seeing the video, I posted this on my FB wall:

“Sana tigilan na ang pagsi-share sa FB ng mga scandals/videos ng mga celebrities… kahit na may mali sa ginawa nila isipin natin ang pakiramdam ng isang taong nilulugmok dahil sa pagkakamali. Kahit tayo ay nagkakamali rin naman, anu bang dinudulot nito sa atin? Anu bang uri ng tao ang sumasaya para sa ikalulungkot ng iba? Buhay nila iyon…wag na natin dagdagan pa ang paglaganap ng ikasisira ng iba…hindi na nakakatuwa kasi.”

I’m not perfect, I’m not religious but I know the feeling of getting hurt… the feeling of being disgraced.

-       I tried putting myself on the situation. Of course I will be ashamed of what I did, but that’s not important at all, what’s more important is my partner’s feelings. What if that video was mine and the one involved is my present girlfriend? Also think if the one involved is your brother or sister? How hurtful it might be to them? It just caused them the most embarrassing moment of their life, a nightmare has been brought.

-       I know you are familiar with this certain Biblical story when Jesus saved Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death by the townspeople, it was stated in the book of John 8:7 “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” We all commit mistakes, nobody is perfect… so we don’t have the right to make someone dishonorable.

It’s their fault…really?

-       Yes it is, but not totally. Come to think of this, let’s say that the video was uploaded by either one of the two persons involved, I can say that it’s their fault if someone saw/watch it. But the time you get involved by means of sharing it publicly, you just worsen the situation. You are now part of the fault…and when that video you shared was reposted… it’s like detonating a bomb making someone’s life miserable.

Why share such types of videos?

-       I can’t see any good logic why there are people who are happy seeing and making other people’s life miserable. We always say “Think before we click”, but are we really practicing it? What’s the essence of sharing it publicly? To gain attention? To gain Facebook Likes? To be in vogue?

Hey, Mr. Semidoppel, you’ve seen it right? Why say such things?  

-       To tell you frankly, I just watched few seconds of the video and didn’t finish it because the moment I start watching it there’s this feeling telling me that something is not right. Also to tell you honestly, I didn’t watch the first video about the abortion thingy. I just knew that there’s a viral video about it, that’s all.

Here’s what I suggest:

DELETE IT.

If you really know where “Semidoppel” get its name, then you are one of my old buddies who knew me very well. It is my Guillotine Cross’ name in Philippine Ragnarok Online, an experimental speed type guillotine cross, an apprentice of -=]Suddenly[=-, my main GX. Yes, yours truly is a certified Ragnarok Online addict and I’m using an account which I use since beta days. Finally, the upcoming patch will put enthusiasm and  Filipino Ragnarok players will surely love, an episode where the map’s themes are based on the Philippines. I have read that there are some Philippine trademarks in this patch, he mentioned the famous “jeepneys” and the Rizal Park can be seen here.

The Ports of Malaya (Ports of Freedom), a Philippine-themed map was made by Gravity and as of now it was launched in kRO Sakray Test Servers. The recent patch they made was putting the new monsters which were monsters based on Filipino mythical creatures. As of now I can say that most monsters in this patch will be  “Demon” type, so folks prepare your weapons and gears to combat these mythical creatures. Where’s the sample image? Here it is!

Monster Names: Wakwak, Engakanto, Bungisngis, Manananggal, Buwaya, Tiyanak, Mangkukulam, Tikbalang, Bangungot

Wondering about the MVP monster here? The gigantic “Bakunawa” who might be as large as Satan Morroc is a mythical creature who was believed the cause of eclipses by swallowing the moon. The creature’s power is not yet confirmed, but I think with that size, you’ll need to have lots of guildsmen to defeat it.

As of now, there’s no exact launch date on when will this patch will be experienced by Filipino gamers. Tell this news to your Ragnarok friends ( even those who already quit, retired, semi-retired players) and invite them again to play the game (even though this time it’s the reign of the “Convert and Receive” series LOL). More and more kids are playing online games these days, even children as young as 2 are now familiar with gaming. Kids are definitely hooked with these games – especially extreme violent ones that are oftentimes top-sellers. Children are also increasing their time in front of the computer thus ruling out other recreational activities offline. Research shows that kids are spending approximately a maximum of 13 hours per week on playing online. The sad fact is, most of these games are of violent nature and with violence comes the possibility of thrusting the child to aggression in the real world.

So what should parents do? Below are top things parents should put to mind and check before giving your child the go signal.

• Before your kids start playing online, be sure your computer has the right activated security suite: firewall, anti-spyware and anti-virus software for protection.

• Check a game’s ESRB rating before letting your child play, but keep in mind that the rating doesn’t reflect user-generated content that children come upon during online play. Stated below are rules by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board regarding video games/online games:
- EC stands for “early childhood.” This means that games in this category are suitable for ages 3 and up. Contains no substance that parents may find improper for kids.
- E stands for “everyone.” And is suitable for kids ages 6 and up. Games may include slight violence, rib-tickling mischief and/or minor language.
- E10+ stands for “everyone 10 and older.” Kids ages 10 and up can play games with this rating. In this category, titles may contain more animation, make-believe or mild aggression, trivial language, and minimal indecent themes.
- T stands for “teen.” This means that it is only appropriate for kids ages 13 and up. It could comprise content of violent nature, mild or intense language, and suggestive subject matter.
- M stands for “mature.” Games with this rating are apt for persons ages 17 and up. They may have adult sexual themes; violence is more extreme and have intense language.
- AO stands for “adults only.” Games with this rating have contents fit for adults only. They may include profane sexual innuendo. -
- RP stands for “rating pending.” This means that the games have been submitted and are waiting in line to be rated.

• Think beyond the box. It pays to read rating summaries and brief descriptions of the game. You can always look this up online and check online game review sites for reviews, feedbacks and more information about the game.

• Preview the games by yourself first. Even with the ratings and all the reviews available online, it’s still best for a parent to test the game first before letting your kids play. Game ratings may not match what you feel is appropriate for your child.

• Look for the educational value in choosing online games for your kids. It would be much better if the games your kids are playing are information rich and teach certain values and skills. Take online cooking games for example. They’re fun, educational and easy to play.

• Check if your kids have strong passwords for their gaming accounts. Passwords should be difficult to fathom. Make sure your kids know and remind them all the time that they may not send out any materials to fellow gamers that contain private information and/or data.

• Explain to your child the importance of reporting a cyberbully. Instruct them to keep a record of the conversation if they are being pestered and encourage them not to engage in a conversation with the bully.

In the end, nothing beats good parental guidance. Parental involvement in our children’s media usage can reduce the impact of media violence on our children.

Am I the only one tired of this? Facebook “LIKES” for contest entry, text votes for a certain contestant, wherein the winner will be determined because of the number of votes they will garner. Is this the new way of judging? Obviously, this is the era when social media is fully utilized to entice readers and supporters. Are we so inclined to social media that sometimes we have neglected the quality aspect over quantity? If you know what I mean I am pretty sure you can relate on this article.

The Facebook “LIKE” Syndrome

It is clear to me that the more “LIKES” an entry will have is a solid proof that people really liked it. But come to think of it, if entry 1 has 900 friends, entry 2 has 200 friends, and entry 3 doesn’t have an FB account who you think already have the edge in winning? It is clear to see that entry 1 has the highest chance of bringing home the bacon. The probability was decreased to each competitor because of the number of people entry 1 has. If contests will always rely on this kind of judging, then those who have few friends are doomed. It’s the end of the world for them! Actually I have this friend who kept on winning promos and contests from different sponsors because of the number of “likes” she received for her entry.

The Text Votes Fever

Should I elaborate more? I think this is somewhat the same to the Facebook “LIKE” Syndrome but I think this one is massive and someone is gaining profit from it (sorry network providers). Want an example? It was so obvious that people were so disappointed on the recent Pilipinas Got Talent Grand Finals result. By the way I want to make it clear that I have nothing against the grand winners even though none of my bets made it. Let’s face it, I know who your bets are and probably we have the same contestants in mind. But what can we do, those contestants who won have more supporters than our bets and the worst part is what if those supporters can afford lots of mobile phone loads? We all know how each contestant managed to make it to the finals, all by means of text votes.

Applying this in the blogosphere:

I had a little chat with some blogger friends and this is about our disappointment on contests which rely on Facebook “LIKES” to determine who will win. Here are their observations and suggestions:

• The quality of the post/blog is neglected, liking without reading the article
• The more friends you have, the higher your chance to win
• Someone said that when he will launch a blog contest he will organize a panel of judges which are capable or criticizing post entries
• A criteria will be formulated
• Quality of comments from that post/entry will never be set aside, this is a new challenge for participants on how can they engage readers
• If really can’t be avoided, FB likes will have a small portion on the overall judging criteria (e.g. 5%)

“Dude, you inspire me.”

I started this draft last June 26, 2011, but I only have the title. I don’t know why I can’t start composing this piece, I can’t think on how to start even though several ideas came to my mind. Then last Saturday while I was updating my blog’s Facebook fan page, I saw this video clip from the talent search called “The X Factor” and saw Chris Rene’s performance. Everything comes at the right place and at the right time and I think Chris is the instrument for making me write this article.

Who is Chris Rene? Chris, 28, is a trash collector, living in Sta.Cruz California and a father of a two-year old boy. He just got out from rehab he’s been there for 70 days. According to him, he started smoking weed at the age of 12 or 13, when he was 15 he started drinking beer and became addicted to cocaine and amphetamines. Now that he was out of the rehab and ready to go on a straight path he wants to fulfill his dreams for himself, for his family and for his son…”I wanna be on stages, singing for people, making money.” said Chris.

Sometimes we just have to roll the dice. On his live audition at the “X Factor”, he chose to sing his original composition, he even made the sound for it… it’s a total package but yet it’s a gamble. We all know that in singing contests most contestants have to choose a song which is well-suited to their voice. It’s very rare that an own composition and first time to be heard by the audience more importantly by the judges can make an aspiring singer succeed. But Chris did the unthinkable.

At first when he was asked about the title of his song, he said “Young Homie”, the  audience laugh a little bit and the judges look at each other… a sign that they doubt if they will like it. Chris bravely rolled the dice and never got distracted. It’s showtime!

The judges as well as the whole audience were so impressed on his performance, and you know what happened next? All of them gave Chris a standing ovation, the highest form of respect and appreciation a performer will receive.

He managed to roll the dice… he took the gamble and win in the end. I suddenly recall this quote, “If you don’t try you’ll never know if you can do it”. I also love this certain statement by Chris when he was on interview, he said…

“There’s always a chance, there’s always a choice. Life is too precious to waste.”

Chris I salute you!
