As I checked my Facebook wall this morning, I saw another celebrity video posted, some categorize it as a scandal… and it is now going viral. I don’t know what exactly I felt, but one thing’s for sure… I don’t like it, so I didn’t share it, I won’t repost it. Am I pissed off because of the video? NO! What made me feel angry is I can’t see any importance of sharing to public someone’s disgrace.

After seeing the video, I posted this on my FB wall:

“Sana tigilan na ang pagsi-share sa FB ng mga scandals/videos ng mga celebrities… kahit na may mali sa ginawa nila isipin natin ang pakiramdam ng isang taong nilulugmok dahil sa pagkakamali. Kahit tayo ay nagkakamali rin naman, anu bang dinudulot nito sa atin? Anu bang uri ng tao ang sumasaya para sa ikalulungkot ng iba? Buhay nila iyon…wag na natin dagdagan pa ang paglaganap ng ikasisira ng iba…hindi na nakakatuwa kasi.”

I’m not perfect, I’m not religious but I know the feeling of getting hurt… the feeling of being disgraced.

-       I tried putting myself on the situation. Of course I will be ashamed of what I did, but that’s not important at all, what’s more important is my partner’s feelings. What if that video was mine and the one involved is my present girlfriend? Also think if the one involved is your brother or sister? How hurtful it might be to them? It just caused them the most embarrassing moment of their life, a nightmare has been brought.

-       I know you are familiar with this certain Biblical story when Jesus saved Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death by the townspeople, it was stated in the book of John 8:7 “So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” We all commit mistakes, nobody is perfect… so we don’t have the right to make someone dishonorable.

It’s their fault…really?

-       Yes it is, but not totally. Come to think of this, let’s say that the video was uploaded by either one of the two persons involved, I can say that it’s their fault if someone saw/watch it. But the time you get involved by means of sharing it publicly, you just worsen the situation. You are now part of the fault…and when that video you shared was reposted… it’s like detonating a bomb making someone’s life miserable.

Why share such types of videos?

-       I can’t see any good logic why there are people who are happy seeing and making other people’s life miserable. We always say “Think before we click”, but are we really practicing it? What’s the essence of sharing it publicly? To gain attention? To gain Facebook Likes? To be in vogue?

Hey, Mr. Semidoppel, you’ve seen it right? Why say such things?  

-       To tell you frankly, I just watched few seconds of the video and didn’t finish it because the moment I start watching it there’s this feeling telling me that something is not right. Also to tell you honestly, I didn’t watch the first video about the abortion thingy. I just knew that there’s a viral video about it, that’s all.

Here’s what I suggest:

DELETE IT.

The great American inventor and Apple CEO had passed away, rest in peace Steve Jobs. I can still remember that almost all Apple/Steve Jobs fanatics thanked him through their Tweets and Facebook posts. It seems that Steve became the modern day saint of innovation and technology. I have nothing against Steve Jobs, as a matter of fact I salute him because of his contribution in the gadget world. Though it is pretty obvious that aside from the quality of the gadgets he offer, most of the times people buy it because of the overrated definition that when you have/use it, you are above ordinary, you are included on the higher level of society. That is the wrong concept induced by Apple, though it was perfectly instilled to the consumers’ minds and that certain strategy was proven effective. There’s this another thing I cannot accept…why only Steve Jobs? Have we thanked those inventors and developers who contributed to make our lives better the same way Steve Jobs intended to? Sir Steve, I know you’re in heaven right now, so please give my thanks to them…

• Philo Farnsworth for the invention of the television
• Blaise Pascal for the first calculator

• John Strognofe for the first portable camera
• Peter Petrov in 1968 for the first digital clock
• James King(design), Hamilton Smith(patent) and Alva J. Fisher for the washing machine (invented the first electric-powered type)
• Doctor Martin Cooper invented the modern cellphone
• And to all the inventors who created stuffs that made life easy

All of them probably are with Steve right now, but the world did not mourn on them the same way people did when he died. Maybe because of this certain fact that there’s no internet on their time but still, think about this:

Lots of “pauso” nowadays suddenly came out, we have planking, owling, manning and the recent one made by Pinoys (which is absolutely funny) is called “bakling”. By the way I just want to clear things first, I’m not against those funny poses, I don’t want to be called a “killjoy” person (LOL). As people go nuts doing those stuffs, I think there is something that should be the new trend. The only difference about this new trend I was saying is that, this one should never be forgotten and should always be in practice. What is this new trend I am talking about?
I call it “THINKING”. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling you to pose acting that you are thinking, I am pertaining to the actual state. Some say that it is the ability to reason, a cause and effect in the mind, some say that it is the skill of using intelligence to get things done and experts say that it is the ability of the brain to execute processes in any activity which requires intelligence.

But I define thinking as:

• Not making an anti-planking bill because I know there are lots of laws and bills more important to discuss
• Not trying to cross a flooded street and when you got stuck you will blame everyone, telling them that you were not informed
• Evacuating your home if it is really time to evacuate because your life or your family’s life might be in danger in times of calamities
• Not taking pictures in the area of a crime scene making it a tourist spot and not posting it in your Facebook wall neither uploading the pictures in your profile.
• Not making a hostage taker mad by taking his brother making him a police accessory
Sadly, only few people know how to think… even though we all have brains. Sometimes we don’t have to think depper, all we need is common sense, but still only few people know how to use it. Let us all make thinking as a hobby!
By the way, this article is an “on-the spot” one, I just thought of it when I updated my Facebook wall when I leave this message, “Nauso na ang planking…may owling pa…bakit hindi ipauso ang “THINKING”.

No, don’t get me wrong, I am not promoting revenge or violence here. If you are a Naruto fan, I think this certain line is familiar to you. This is the famous line was said by Naruto regarding his eagerness, about up to what extent he can do to save Sasuke. Then that certain line made me think, can I have the same determination like Naruto has? This line has a very big impact on me, on up to what degree can I stand for my principles and beliefs.

Actually, this line makes me more firm to stand on what I believe in, even as a blogger. If you’re an avid reader or follower of my blog, you know what this blog’s nature is. For those who do not know it yet, this is a personal blog, composed of articles about lifestyle, social, cultural, trends and opinionated views. As of now, my I am publishing opinionated articles, discussing different things and I am telling you that this saying is true…”We really can’t please everyone”. Not every reader can relate to my post, not every reader can jive with my frequency.

I can still remember when I have an article focused on a particular TV show wherein I received comments a blogger doesn’t want to see. I replied to every comment they posted, I stick to my principle for I know that I am the reflection of every article I publish. Some of the commenters are the “know-it-all” type, those kind of people are the most difficult to handle. I didn’t erased their comments, and I am proud to say that after all the bad comments I received, out of the blue, some readers commented thanking me that finally there is someone who think the same they do. It seems that they are my spokespersons, saying things I really want to say.

As a blogger, I think we really should be courageous enough to fight for what we believe in. Our determination should not be shaken by intimidating people. As long as our motive is good and won’t harm anyone, I think we are doing the right thing. Someone told me that as long as I don’t break the boundaries about being right, I won’t hurt anyone. Also, I think we should be flexible enough to adjust for every kind of people who will drop by our blogs. The harsh reality that we cannot please everyone, is the undying factor that will haunt us.

Did I successfully have your attention? Well, the title seems intriguing, right? Who in the world would like to make someone’s life to be a living hell or joyful heaven? Actually this post is about social networking, the internet and the netizens who spend lots of hours online every day. How socialism with the touch of internet-effect could affect someone’s life.

People nowadays are very much into Facebook, Twitter and Youtube, I just don’t know if they are aware on the good and bad effects of it. I still remember something that I said in my post titled “Are Bloggers Guilty of Impatient Journalism” that bloggers are one of the factors in the warp-speed spreading of news. I just realized that there is another group of people who are more powerful than bloggers… and that’s the general audience.

First, let me ask you how Charice Pempengco made her way to be a very well-known singer? How Arnel Pineda managed to be part of the band called Journey and made it to be one of the most successful Filipino singers? How Maria Aragon made her way to see her idol Lady Gaga? How Moymoy Palaboy successfully become part of the Bubble Gang? I know you know how they started? Youtube! With their outstanding talents and creativity they gained the attention of different people. I can still remember when Oprah saw Charice’s Youtube clip then called her right away, Arnel Pineda was discovered because one of his friend/fan uploaded videos of his performances and the Journey band saw it, Maria Aragon’s sister uploaded her video and luckily that clip caught Lady Gaga’s attention and lastly, Moymoy Palaboy’s lip synching prowess and funny gimmicks while doing the lip synch was loved by Filipinos. With lots of sharing, likes and tweets that spread during that time, it just took a couple of minutes to make them famous.

On the other hand, not all people experience the same outcome in terms of popularity. We all know the Christopher Lao flood incident, right? I also tackled this on my post about how socialism made such humiliation to him given the fact that he did something wrong. I have also a post concerning about commenting and posting updates in social networking sites (Are We Ethical in Posting and Commenting on Facebook?) You might not notice or you can’t notice it sometimes that commenting and posting in Facebook has a huge effect in driving popularity. The domino effect of Facebook is a non-stopping chain, and that’s how social networking works.

There’s this opinion which was focused on “The Wrong to Privacy” and tackled about how people forgot to limit themselves in expressing one’s feeling or opinion. We call it excessive “Freedom of Expression” but the question is how this freedom affects a certain situation. He also emphasizes that with the use of Facebook, Youtube and Twitter, a person’s boundary privacy is unnoticeably diminishing. When this boundary was not set or regulated, I bet it’s like saying “stalk on me”.

There are lots of examples that can serve as proof of what I am trying to imply. But the bottom line is, how can we become very responsible now that we know that every click we make, every upload we do, and even every tweet we post has a certain degree of impact in the world where internet reigns. One of my blog visitors left a comment, a very simple comment but have a very important meaning “Think before you click.”

Recently, there’s a news opinion I read which focuses on ethics of journalism. One of the points the author discussed was about the way how bloggers feed on news. It seems that some bloggers forgot the importance of when to limit themselves. The author set the “Christopher Lao flood incident” as an example wherein this poor guy was obviously a victim of cyber bullying. Though he did a mistake, the new media and social networks made the incident worse. It just took hours to make this man as one of the trending searches in the internet. He gained popularity but in a bad manner and as a result, he was humiliated by the embarrassment made by media.

One thing he also discussed is the lack of verifying, verifying the report not just focusing on it so you can formulate a certain article. “Verifying facts is the central function of journalism”, this is true! Blogging is journalism in a different form, and basically the ethics of journalism should also be kept in mind by us. A blogger or a journalist can gain trust if all that his reports and articles published are based on facts, unbiased and informative.

The Philippines is a country where socialism is usually welcome, and most of the times people forgot to limit themselves embracing it. Socialism with journalism when combined effectively is a very powerful tool to spread whatever form of media. As for bloggers, we use our articles to inform or to gain traffic on our blog sites so we use different social networking sites to spread what we want them to know. But I think we should also practice this so-called “sustained journalism” with a touch of fact-finding and proper disposition.

We, bloggers are one of the main factors contributing to the “warp speed” spreading of news, so we should always keep in mind the ethics of journalism. “Don’t let adverse facts stand in the way of a good decision” according to Collin Powell so before we publish anything let us make sure that we made the article to inform, to spread what is true and fair.

I read this news about Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) finalizing or should I say “already finalized” the line-up of the athletes who will represent our country in the upcoming SEA Games in Jakarta this November. To my surprise, it is not the Philippine Dragon Boat Team that they chose, instead they will send the team from the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Federation. Why? The PDBF paddlers are not recognized by POC as the official national sports association for dragon boat and they were not endorsed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

But there is still a chance for the PDBF paddlers to join SEA Games, if they will pass the qualifications of the canoe-kayak federation.

POC also commented that the PDBF paddlers are already old and they should give way to the new and young athletes. “They have the body, they have everything, but as we all know, ampaw na lang ‘yun,” Tamayo said. POC also alleges the PDBF team that they use steroids and they cheated the time trial results for the Asian Games.

My OPINION:

I found out that the International Olympic Committee came out with a directive that PDBF should be under the Canoe-Kayak federation as the national sports association. That is the reason POC doesn’t recognize PDBF as the team they should send. If the rules are set that way and it was done by due process, I think there’s no need to question about who’s going to SEA Games. So obviously there’s no one to blame because it was a directive which came from a higher organization. But I think it is not too late for them to officially recognize the PDBF paddlers, they should talk about it, pass the qualifications, finalize the requirements and  comply with the international standards.

Actually being not recognized is not what I am ranting about. I just don’t like the way how Tamayo commented the PDBF paddlers, “They have the body, they have everything, but as we all know, ampaw na lang ‘yun”. For me this is very insulting, does he know what he just said? How come these “old paddlers” managed to dominate the  International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships, bringing home five (5) gold medals and two (2) silver medals. Who’s “ampaw” now, maybe it’s your brain Mr. Tamayo?

I can’t accept this harsh reality that POC even alleged PDBF that they use steroids and they cheat. Crab mentality! If they were on steroids, why not investigate and obliged every member of the paddlers to undergo medical and laboratory examinations? If they cheat, why not ask the officials of the Asian Olympics that validated the results. I think you should do these to clear things, to clear your doubts.  Why not try to support our fellow countrymen instead of broadcasting such allegations that may ruin their reputation.

Just a suggestion, why not have a competition between the Philippine Canoe-Kayak Team and the Philippine Dragon Boat Team? Then let us see who deserves and who is competitive enough.
