I saw this news about three UP professors recommending that death penalty should be imposed to those who will be guilty of corruption. They presented a report titled “From Pinoys to PNoy” last Friday at UP NCPAG, also they have a proposal about establishing parameters for anti-corruption agencies and programs. Have I read the report? Not yet. But I don’t have to read it just to say aloud that I agree on what they recommended.

What do you know about politics Mr. Semidoppel, how come you can say stuffs like this? For me, knowing what is just and what is right doesn’t need me to become a politician, all I need is common sense and conscience.

Personally, I think this should be the kind of law our lawmakers should consider unlike those bills about “anti-planking” (honestly, it’s just a waste of time). Sorry Mr. Castelo but I would appreciate more if you will have a move in supporting this recommendation.  We all know that every bill which is subjected for a review takes a lot of time and lots of money which came from taxes paid by the Filipino people. For our lawmakers, prove to your countrymen that you are worthy of the position you are in. You’re not there just to enjoy your benefits as public officials. Prove to them that their taxes are spent for the benefit of all and not on your personal wants. Does this mean that all politicians here will be replaced because all of them are guilty of corruption? No! It’s not yet too late, Filipinos still believe that not all politicians are corrupt.

Also, I think it is better if this is law already exists and was imposed long time ago. If this already exists, I think the probability that corruption will be somewhat diminished is high.

Why do I think that death penalty should be imposed? We all know that those criminals who committed heinous crimes were sentenced to be punished by death penalty. I think it is fair that corrupt officials suffer the same thing, they are not different from them. Corrupt government officials are killers, indirectly taking away people’s lives.  They are robbers, taking away the taxes we pay. The money which is supposed to be given to those who are really in need, to the calamity victims, to the farmers affected by massive flood, all of it was stolen.

But to make this possible, I think the government should improve the justice system here in our country. Search for the most appropriate people who have the ability to bestow equal judgment, the one who can’t be blinded by money. Even though the law will be implemented, there is still a big hindrance that might lead it to be ineffective if the judging system will remain rotten.

But I also think that we people should start supporting this anti-corruption campaign. How? No to vote buying, don’t sell your vote. In this simple way, we can already diminish and eliminate corruption. Corruption takes place from a simple barangay tanod, councilor up to the president (no doubt about it) that’s if we allow them to continue what they are doing. The battle against the “government’s cancer” is just beginning, let us all do our part.

He bravely resigned from his position as Senator last Wednesday, and according to Zubiri his resignation was irrevocable. Some of his fellow senators admired him because of what he did, instead of finishing the last two years of his term, he decided to resign and gave emphasis that he did not cheat.

Surprisingly, just after his speech, he confirmed in an interview that he will run for Senator in the 2013 elections. He is seeking fresh mandate, and his wife supports his decision. I just wonder, is this an early campaign?

Meanwhile, Malacanang expects cooperation from Zubiri, “We call on Mr. Zubiri to further demonstrate his willingness to help restore the dignity of our electoral process. Any contribution he makes can be vital in restoring the people’s mandate,” in a statement made by Edwin Lacierda, Presidential spokesman.

Yes! I have done my part as a Filipino and I was able to practice my privilege to vote. Finally, after the long wait, I already experienced the automated voting.

The night before that, my mom told me that she will vote at 7 o’clock in the morning, she asked me if what time I will vote. I said that I might vote in the afternoon, around 2 o’clock. She said that they want to avoid the long wait and the long line in the precinct.

This morning, when I woke up, I saw my mom and my sister getting ready to leave. The school where the precinct was located is just a 5-minute ride from home. After two hours, I received a text message containing this” Kuya, bumoto ka na, mahaba ang pila”. I ignored that text and go back to sleep. This afternoon, around 2 o’clock, I went to the precinct, search my name on the list and proceed inside. They handed me this verrryyyyy long ballot kept inside a folder with a marker, and then sat down on a desk.

As I open the ballot, I saw the verrryyy looong lists of candidates running this election. I thought the hardest part of voting is choosing who your bets are, but I was wrong. The most difficult part is shading the oval beside the name of the candidate. The “bilog na hugis itlog” is very small and you need to be very careful in shading it. I used my artistic ability (LOL) in shading every oval/oblong. As I remember, I voted a president, vice-president, six senators and a party list on the national listings. I just don’t feel I have to fill up twelve different senators, I just voted who I think is worthy of my vote.

After I finished shading, I went to the PCOS machine, and I admit that this is the most suspenseful part of the voting procedure. I gently inserted the ballot, and thank goodness, my first time is a success! I handed back the folder and the marker, signed my name on the voter’s list and put a thumb mark beside where I signed. After that, they put a drop of indelible ink on my index finger as a guarantee that I have successfully completed the voting process.

Last Saturday, during an address to Intelligence Ministry staff, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad commented and labeled the September 11 attacks as a “big lie”.  According to him, the US Government used the incident as an excuse to pursue war on terror.

“September 11 was a big lie and a pretext for the war on terror and a prelude to invading Afghanistan,” said Ahmadinejad. This statement heightens up the tension between US and Iran specifically on the nuclear program by Iran. Iran refuses to stop uranium enrichment, even though certain sanctions might be applied to them. Another comment made it more intriguing when he said that the attack is a “complicated intelligence scenario and act.”

This is not the first time Ahmadinejad said such uproars, in 2007 he also commented that the attacks that happened was a result of mismanaging and inhumane managing of the world by the U.S.
