Spanish basketball superstar, Ricky Rubio announced that he will join NBA and he will be under the coaching of Kurt Rambis, Minnesota Timberwolves’ coach. After two years of speculation, the 20-year old Spanish guard decided to join NBA after the negotiation has been settled. His buyout clause in Barcelona is $6 million, but the NBA team can only pay $500, 000 as per leagues’ rule, but the deal was settled when the deal came into a more negotiable price which is $1.4, that’s still a lot of money!

“I have finally decided to start the journey” that’s what Ricky Rubio said last Friday, “It is my dream and I want to fulfill it,” he said. “After thinking about it a lot, the time has arrived.” he added. He was the fifth draft pick last 2009 and he was picked by Minnesota, but he decided to play in Spain because of the deal issue. According to a source, he will be officially announced as a Minnesota Timberwolves player at Target Center next week.

Team Pilipinas managed to defeat team Jordan with a score of 76 to 74 in the FIBA Asia Championship. Even the team was penalized by two unsportsmanlike fouls (2 free throws plus ball possession by the other team will be awarded), they never lose composure. It was a heartbreaker! When Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers missed his shot, Ron Artest, his teammate took the rebound and did an awkward shot. Luckily the fancy shot gives the Lakers a 3-2 lead against the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference Finals. The final score is 103-101, with Bryant contributing 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. But the hero of the game is Ron Artest who made a difficult shot and it went in. Game six will be in Phoenix, scheduled this coming Saturday, if the Lakers will dominate this game, they will have the chance to play for their 16^th championship.

Baylor’s Brittney Griner is now suspended for two games, according to Coach Kim Mulkey. She is suspended for one game and another one game which was a suspension mandated by the NCAA rules. Griner punched Jordan Barncastle in the face that made her broke her nose last Wednesday night.  The dunking freshman will not be seen in the lineup on their next game against the No.18 Texas in Waco.

“Due to the severity of the act, it is appropriate that Ms. Griner is suspended for an additional game,”… “Therefore, I have accepted Baylor’s action and commend athletics director Ian McCaw and head coach Kim Mulkeyfor taking a strong stance to support good sportsmanship.” said Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe.

Brittney Griner apologized to ”the Lady Raider team”, her teammates, coaches, and to the fans, according to a steatement released by Baylor. “I let my emotions get the best of me and I am deeply sorry for my actions. I am committed to doing a better job of maintaining my composure in the future,” she said. “I will grow from this and I am dedicated to setting an example to others of how to learn from personal mistakes.”

The dunking sensation is averaging 19 points, 8.7 rebounds, 6.1 blocks per game. She is also the second player to the dunk more than once in a women’s basketball game.

Allen Iverson will not be with the whole 76ers team this season. He wants to be with his 4-year old daughter, Messiah who is now suffering from an illness. Messiah is in the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the doctors are still working to find out what might be the cause of the girl’s illness. Iverson already missed his last five games, and because of his in-and-out of the lineup, the officials decided to have a permanent break with A.I. According to a source, Eddie Jordan, 76ers coach told his team that Iverson may not have a chance to be on their team. Iverson didn’t attend the All Star Game even though he was voted by fans to be one of the starters for the Eastern Conference.
On a statement by the Sixers General Manager Ed Stefanski released last Monday afternoon he said that, “At this time, we feel that it is in the best interest of the Sixers, Allen and his family that he be allowed to deal with a very serious issue that is far greater than the game of basketball”.
