Masafumi Masamoto, Executive Vice President of Sharp Corp. in Japan, stated in a conference that they (Sharp) are one step closer to 3D displays. It was confirmed that Sharp Corp. in Japan will now join the battle of the 3D TVs. They will start selling 3D-capable LCD TV’s in Japan this summer, they believed that 3D TVs will be the next growth driver in the industry.  They are proud of having the first “3D TVs that will use the four-primary-color technology, which utilizes yellow on top of the three conventional primary colors of red, green and blue, enabling the TV sets to offer brighter, more vivid images”, but to you need to wear special glasses in able to watch. Sharp Corp. will join larger rivals such as Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, Sony Corp., and Panasonic, however, Panasonic and Samsung already released their TV models while Sony plans to start in June. Sharp did not confirmed how many units of the 3D LCD TVs will be produced but they plan to boost their sales with it just like the recent target they hit, they have successfully achieved their sales target of 10 million units of LCD TV.

The on-going Consumer Electronics Show 2010 was said to be all about 3D. Different exhibitors like Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba, and Sony impress all attendees with their 3D TV demos. 3D glasses which are complete with LCD lenses have battery-powered “active shutter” and said to have an effect similar to the 3D glasses that are used in movies.

But the eye-popping features of 3D TV have flaws. These are the following:

Glare

- The glare on glossy HDTV screens reveal the flaw of the 3D effect, to have a 3D TV experience, you need to be on a darkened room, avoid any glare-inducing light sources in the area

Flicker

-3D glasses are made to have refresh rates, but designed that this flicker should be unnoticeable. But some people that tested these glasses said that there are times that it is not just a slight flicker, it was sometimes a distracting one.

-Depends on the 3D sources on display, this might become a big issue to the upcoming 3D TV networks

Fancast Xfinity TV, is now being promoted on Fancast.com, you can watch full-length episodes of shows such as “The Sopranos,” “The Colbert Report,” “Glee” and “The Simpsons,” and movies like “Juno” and “Wall-E.” The premium cable channels like HBO, Starz and Cinemax will available only if the user is also signed up to a certain Comcast cable package. According to Comcast about 30 cable networks are providing some 2,000 hours of programming for the service. They allow 3 computers on a single account.

According to Amy Banse, president of Comcast’s interactive-media unit, their goal is to allow a customer who buys a package of content from Comcast to access that content on any screen at any time. Their service is only available to Comcast customers only who receive both TV and Internet service through the cable provider. Customers should download Comcast Access Installer, available through Fancast.com, before watching the shows. They said that the installer worked flawlessly to a netbook with Windows 7. Comcast began testing the online-TV initiative with some 5,000 customers over the summer, and expanded to more during the fall.

Remember these points:

• Once a user has established Comcast “credentials” on a device, the programming can be reached through any ISP.
• For licensing reasons, access is limited to the U.S.
• Access to premium services through Fancast Xfinity requires a cable video sub for that network. Pay for HBO on cable, you get it through Xfinity
• The Fancast site will look the same as it always has to non-Comcast subs. Comcast subs will see promotions about signing up and a different version of the site.
