SIM-LEI is the electric car developed by the electric vehicle specialist SIM-Drive. They have unveiled a future car that they hoped they can mass produce in 2013. Though the price is not yet confirmed, they make sure that the cost will be worth it because of its performance. SIM-LEI can run 333km or 207 miles before the battery’s charge will be completely drained, that’s a lot longer than Nissan’s Leaf which was launch last year, it can run up to a 160-kilometer range.

SIM-LEI is a joint project by SIM-Drive, Mitsubishi Motors, IHI and 34 more organizations, all are looking up for a mass production of the electric car. If they can solve the issue of the costly batteries, the dream they are aiming will never be a problem.

Who says an electric car cannot dominate an auto show? The Nissan Leaf made it possible by winning the New York International Auto Show, beating the Audi A8 and the BMW 5 Series. This car costs $32, 780, this is the price before the tax incentive, and now it only costs $20,490, making it the most affordable electric vehicle in the U.S. This car is also the first mass-marketed electric vehicle, equipped with the zero-emission technology, a green car designed with considerations for the environment and health.

Check these features of the Nissan Leaf:

• World’s first car which is 5-seater, 5-door hatchback
• An electric motor with 108hp and 206 lb ft of torque, powered by lithium-ion battery modules
• 90 mph top speed
• Can run 100 miles on full charge (as per Nissan)
• 8 hours charging time using 220-240V power supply

But the Nissan Leaf didn’t get the award for the 2011 World Green Car of the Year, it’s the Chevy Volt who gained the award, with a hybrid technology of switching electricity to gasoline as the battery charge depleted.

Although the Nissan Leaf didn’t get that award, I’m still impressed with this new form of car technology. Transportation when innovated in such manner wherein all possible aspects that might be affected will be taken into consideration, environmental pollution will never become a problem anymore.

Bugatti Veyron

Presenting, Bugatti’s finest, the world’s most expensive car, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport! Who would have thought that India can produce this car? A car with a top speed of 407 kilometers (250 miles) an hour which costs 160 million rupees equivalent to 3.6 million dollars.

The car was displayed in New Delhi last Thursday and it was confirmed that 150 of the cars will be sold worldwide, clearly it’s a limited edition and a collectible for billionaires. Take note, India has 69 billionaires, if these billionaires will buy one, you can only avail the remaining 81 units of the car. Hmm, who do you think will be the first one to buy this car?

The Chicago Auto Show is the largest auto show in North America and this year marks the 102^nd edition of the show. CATA (Chicago Automobile Trade Association) produced the show since 1935.  The auto show will be held from February 12 to 21 at the McCormick Place, 2301 South Martin Luther King Drive, Chicago, Illinois. Public show hours will start at 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. but on February 21 the public show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

What the Auto Show can offer those who will come? According to their site, complete range of domestic and imported passenger cars and trucks; sport utility vehicles, experimental and concept cars can be seen at the event (nearly 1000 different vehicles) and numerous accessories and auto-related exhibits, competition vehicles, project, antique and collector cars. For those who wanted to come here are the ticket prices:

• $11 for adults
• $7 for seniors aged 62 and older
• $7 for children 7-12
• Free admissions for children 6 and younger are free when they accompany a paying adult
• Weekday discount coupons ($4 off the regular adult admission) available at various area    new-car dealers and Shell gas stations. Participating banks also mail the discount tickets to their account holders.

Also, take note of these dates because these are special days:

• On Tuesday, February 16, Women’s Day. Women are admitted for $7. Manufacturers will present special women-oriented programs on the purchase and lease of cars and maintenance.
• On Wednesday, February 17, Thursday, February 18, Friday, February 19. Chicago Auto Show Food Drive sponsored by Chrysler. Show patrons who bring three cans of food, donated to the Chicago Christian Industrial League; will receive a coupon for $7 admission.
• Also in Friday, February 19, Telemundo Hispanic Day.

Toyota Prius, a hybrid gas-electric car which is a very popular car among users is now the headache of Toyota. Recently, many people who owned such car called the Japanese automaker regarding the brake problems specifically about the malfunctioning of the brake system on bumpy and slippery roads. Since July, Toyota already received 14 complaints according to the Japanese government. An accident happened last July 2009 when a car crashed head to head to another car at an intersection, the 13 other reports happened from December 2009 to January 2010. The government (Japan’s ministry) already ordered Toyota Motor Corp. to investigate about it. In the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received more than 100 complaints about the brakes in the latest Prius model. Two of those complaints involved crashes that resulted in injuries.
