Dave Brubeck Honoree in this Year’s Kennedy Center Honors

Dave Brubeck is an American Jazz pianist that recently was one of the honorees in this year’s Kennedy Center Honors. He wrote the “In Your Own Sweet Way” and “The Duke”, his music is known for employing unusual time signatures, and superimposing contrasting rhythms, meters, and tonalities.


Together with Brubeck, Mel Brooks, Grace Bumbry, Robert De Niro, and Bruce Springsteen were the artists honored for their lifetime contributions to American culture. The ceremony was aired by CBS last December 29. This yearly event recognizes recipients for their lifetime contributions to American culture through the performing arts in dance, music, theater, opera, motion pictures and television.

President Obama, Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met again these honorees after the White House reception. Different artists appear on the said ceremony and that includes Jack Black, Matthew Broderick, Harry Connick, Jr., Melissa Etheridge, Aretha Franklin, Herbie Hancock, Ben Harper, Harvey Keitel, Frank Langella, John Mellencamp, Edward Norton, Carl Reiner, Martin Scorsese, Martin Short, Jon Stewart, Ben Stiller, Sting, Sharon Stone, Meryl Streep, and Eddie Vedder.
