Las Sunday, I went home because of my father’s birthday. Unfortunately I have to choose if I will go to Makati for the live coverage of the Pacquiao-Cotto bout or be home early. We don’t have a cable provider in our house so I have no choice but to watch the fight in GMA 7.
The first match started at eleven o’clock in the morning. I really don’t care about the undercard fights, all I want to see is Manny’s fight. During the second undercard bout (in GMA 7), my girlfriend’s brother texted her that Paquiao already knocked down Cotto twice, and it was on already on round 5 , and after several minutes we called her brother again and he let us hear Michael Buffer announcing the winner of the fight. Manny did it, he had successfully claimed his 7th Weight Division belt.
I was so happy knowing his triumph but I still want to see how they fight. It was already their bout, all national anthems were already sung and the entrance of each boxer was also finished. It was round one, after the end of the round was…… the commercial break. I am patient at the first three rounds, but after the fourth round, I got angry because of the vvvveeeerrryyyy llllooonnnnggg commercial breaks. I decided to check how many minutes each commercial break will take. After several checking I found out that it took seven minutes and thirty seconds. If you still remember the Pacquiao-Dela Hoya match, the commercial breaks were longer than this match. Many people were so disappointed with that coverage. If you will notice the Pacquaio-Hatton match, the commercial breaks are not that long (bumawi sila).
I just don’t get it. Why have so many commercials during those kinds of coverage ? Paid advertisements that make them very obliged to show these commercial ads very frequently. Can’t they negotiate with those advertisers about the frequency of showing it? I just look at it very inconsiderate. Some may agree with me and to those who don’t, please enlighten me *sigh* .

from what i understand, GMA’s coverage wasn’t live, and thus there were paid advertisements/commercials. GMA couldn’t show it for free, otherwise it will be unfair for those who paid for PPV viewing.
yes I also know that it’s not live, what I am trying to point out is that, are they really obliged to show all commercial/advertisements that last for about 7 minutes and 30 seconds at the end of every round, it’s longer than the 3minutes per round of boxing. imagine 12 rounds x 3 minutes = 36 minutes of boxing, 12 rounds x 7.5 minutes of commercial breaks = 90 minutes of wasted time
