I believe in angels, and that belief became stronger when my little brother was born. Yes you’re right, he is my Super One.

I can still remember when my mom found out that she was pregnant, who would have thought that after 18 years, my mom can still bear one. My sister and I were so excited when mom told us the news… finally I can become a brother again.

November 18, 2005, around 4 o’clock in the morning:

My mom’s water bag broke, it’s the time we are all waiting for. We rushed her to the hospital, and immediately she was sent to the delivery room. We are all nervous because there’s one thing that troubled us, my little brother was “suhi”, and my mom’s life will be in danger if she will undergo normal delivery, she’s high blood and the pain might cause her hypertension. The doctor said that she might undergo caesarean operation, but that time we don’t have money to pay for that kind of operation. My little brother might have heard the whole situation. Then a miracle happened, the doctor checked my mom before he precedes the operation, then said “UMIKOT ANG BATA”, and there’s no need to undergo caesarean operation. With God’s help, my Super One did it.

My father named him Errol John and I am the one who gave him a nickname, now we call him WAFU (which means gwapo or handsome). Errol is my photocopy, many people say that we are “pinagbiyak na bunga” because it seemed that we looked alike when I was young. Frankly speaking, I never experienced being a brother to my younger sister, I am two years older than my sister and I didn’t experienced taking care of my sister like the usual older brother do. Unknowingly, Wafu, my Super One taught me how to become a brother again, he taught me things a brother must do. I give him bath, teach him basketball, buy him toys, take him to Jollibee and taught him how to ride a bike. I think he also taught me how to become a father, he might be God’s blessing sent to me so that I can prepare myself on how to become a responsible father someday.

He is the family’s angel! One time mom and dad had a quarrel, Errol was not used to that kind of situation. Because of his curiosity, he asked both of them “Bakit di kayo uusap?”. Mom and dad looked at each other and just laughed, and in an instant the quarrel’s gone, they became okay again.

“If I just listened to him”, that’s what’s on my mind while lying on the ground, soaked on my own blood. September 30, 2008, my cousins and I planned to go out for a drink. Errol heard it and begged me not to go, he cried because he doesn’t want me to go. It took me an hour before I managed to escape from him, I waited for him to sleep before I go. On the next day October 1, 2008, I met an accident, injured my knee, almost break it and suffered lacerations on my face and got few stitches on it. If I just listened to him that time, I don’t have to suffer for a year just to recover from my injuries.

He is my stress reliever, I can still remember the moments when I go home, he was waiting for me at the gate, then when he saw me he will run towards me and asks me to carry him, and when I carry him he will kiss me on my cheek several times and he will say that he missed me so much.

When I was out of town and I miss Wafu, I just look at this video, and this lessens my becoming homesick.

I love my brother very much, he is my Super One, and I want to become his Super One, too. I hope Errol, when you grow up, you can read this post in my blog. This is not just an entry for this contest, this is one way of showing you how much I love you.

I wish you will grow and become a good man and a better man than your kuya. Just like Kuya’s favorite song (from Wherever You Will Go by The Calling), “If I could, then I would, I’ll go wherever you will go”. I will do my best to be the Super Kuya forever!

BUNSO

Nasa tiyan ka pa lang ni mommy buong pamilya ay excited na

Kahit si Ate nagtatampo, naiinggit kasi siya

Papalitan mo na daw siya bilang bunso

Noon si Ate ay laging nakanguso.

Pero nung lumabas ka na sa tiyan ni mommy

Si kuya, si ate, si daddy ay happy

Tampo ni ate biglang nawala

Nang marinig niya ang una mong UHA.

Akala namin apat lang kami

Pero after 18 years biglang nagka-baby

Lima na ngayon ang ating family

Dumagdag pa kasi si Wafu na pogi.

Wish lang namin sa paglaki mo

Ikarangal ang buong pamilya mo

Errol makinig, ito ang aming payo

Maging maka-Diyos, maging makatao.
