Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone is setting their minds or motivating themselves to have a good start this year. Do you have a “New Year’s Resolution”? I know you have, you may not notice it but I am pretty sure that there is something in your mind.
What is a New Year’s Resolution?
For me, this is just the same as setting a goal or a personal commitment and also a way of reforming one self. We all wanted a good start right? Who wouldn’t? People, especially those who have negligence, regrets and shortcomings on the previous year tends to find New Year as the most significant time to make a good start.
Why Should One Have a New Year’s Resolution?
It is not compulsory for one to have a resolution, but as I have mentioned earlier, a person always has a goal in mind. If one has a certain goal, probably it will not be hard for him to focus, just like a sniper locked on target. If you may not have a resolution, probably you have an intention, which I think is less demanding than a resolution.
What if I have so many goals in mind?
Making a list of the goals you want to do this year is very significant because this is one way of reminding yourself. Also, having a list is the proper way of prioritizing which resolution should be done first. One more benefit from having a list is that you can assess if the list is obtainable and time-bound (short-term or long-term).
Should I tell it to someone if I am asked?
Normally, people might ask you if you have any because this particular person wants you to ask him/her, too. Or maybe, someone will ask you just out of curiosity and some may ask you just because of sarcasm, preparing for their insult in case you fail. So should you tell if you were asked?
YES and NO.
YES. But be sure to tell it to someone whom you trust… to your family, to SOME relatives or to a close friend may be. This person or people will remind you if they noticed that you are already forgetting or failing to continue.
NO. Sometimes it is better that you keep it yourself. If you don’t tell it to someone, you won’t receive sarcasms if you fail. For me, let people notice that something has changed without telling them, the feeling of accomplishment is much rewarding.
What if I fail?
Let me share to you one of my favorite sayings, “If you don’t try, you’ll never know if you can do it”. It is true that you’ll never know unless you try so instead of worrying on stuff if ever you fail, why not look at it the other way. You have the goal, you have the urge, you want to change for the better and you want to make your life happy. Those are the key factors why you want to your New Year’s Resolution be fulfilled.
Well, do you have any New Year’s Resolution you want to share? Please leave a comment after this post, I haven’t figured out mine yet, your comments might be a good help. Happy New Year!

My version of your New Year’s Resolution is what I call Faith Goals. I find this a lot better effective (as for me), cos I will not rely on my own strength but will trust God in full to accomplish and change things for, about and in myself over the year. (So you got an idea why I call it that way.)
Anyways, would like to share to you some of mine. I suggest that you also, maybe not write, but have a copy at least kept in your iPad or computer. Keeping a copy will not only help you remember your “resolutions”. You can also go back to it and tick on the bullet on what has been accomplished. Seeing your list being met one by one will give you a sense of joy and will encourage you to move further everytime.
Okay, now here are some of mine (I modified some from what is really written, and generalized a few for privacy purposes):
Spiritual:
• Deeper relationship with God. That I may finish 2013 strong; That I may come through everything and stand firm before God.
• Constant quiet time.
• That I would be keen to the needy and be generous in every way
Family/friends
• Salvation and complete healing of a close family member
• 2013 Christmas with family members complete
Career:
• Pass licensure exam with flying colors.

Personal:
• That I would please God wherever He has called me – encouraging men in my life to take the lead, and to always display gentleness and peace,
• That I will not make stupid decisions which I will regret later; to decide and plan carefully
• Lose weight to XX kg and maintain it the whole year
• Places – Puerto Galera, Subic, Bohol
