On Noynoy Aquino’s Smoking Habit | I Agree With You Lourd
I saw this video from YouTube, a video of Lourd de Veyra entitled “Noynoy, Yosi Boy”. For those who do not know Noynoy, he is the next apparent president of the Philippines, he will be the 15th president who will govern this country.
If you will watch the video, the main topic is not about how Noynoy will govern the Philippines, it is about his smoking habit, we call it “paninigarilyo”. Is smoking enough to be the basis if he will have discipline and basis of his determination on how to be an effective leader? Just like Lourd, I don’t agree!
Can morality be based on the person’s smoking habit?
That’s the second point Lourd featured on that video, then he enumerated several foreign leaders that have smoking habits, even those who are alcoholic, but despite of those vices, they became the most effective leaders in history. Here they are:
- Franklin Delano Roosevelt – considered as the most leader of America
- Dwight Eisenhower – General during World War II who became president
- John F. Kennedy
- Bill Clinton
- Richard Nixon
- Lyndon Johnson
- Barack Obama
- Mao Tse Tung
Then he compared the following leaders who doesn’t smoke, drink and live a healthy lifestyle, and take note of what they did in the country they govern.
- Adolf Hitler
- Ferdinand Marcos and even
- Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo
So now, should Noynoy stop smoking just to please everyone? Just like what Noy have said in an interview, only he himself can tell if when he will stop to smoke. He is just enjoying one of the few things he is free to do.
For me, don’t blame Noy if he wants to smoke, if you know why people smoke, one of the reasons is that, they feel relaxed when they are tensed. Also, if we will judge a person’s personality because of that, I think it is very unfair to that person. Morality and personality is different in some ways, let’s think about it.
