Yahoo! It’s already February! Valentines day is coming soon. Actually, I am not excited because it’s V-day, I am excited because my birthday is just few days away.
I am really not this excited when my birthday is coming, actually when I was twelve years old, I decided not to celebrate it anymore because of the bad experience I encountered. It was just last year that I celebrated it again. Why? My girlfriend “Emmy” made it worth celebrating again.
I still remember last year, she asked about what might be my plan on my coming birthday. I said that, I don’t have any plans, it was just an ordinary day for me. I told her that I am just going to go to the internet shop and play my MMORPG like the usual daily routine I do. She asked me about why I don’t celebrate the most special day of my life. I told her why, and it looked like she pitied me. I can’t blame her, it really was sad if you will know.
Anyway, my birthday was on February 15, last year it was on a Friday. February 11, Monday, I don’t have any out of town schedule, so I was in the office. I have to do my liquidation, so I opened my drawer and to my surprise, I saw something wrapped,it was a gift and it was for me. I asked Emmy if she was the one who put it there, and she said yes. I was so happy that time because it was my first time to be surprised like that. Not only that, she also prepared a breakfast and lunch for me. I thought that it would be the only surprise she will do, but on the next day, as I opened my drawer again, I saw four pairs of socks! This was the simplest but most memorable gift she gave me. I laughed because I knew that she’s the one who gave it. She may have noticed that some of my socks have holes in it. (That’s what will happen if you wear steel-toed shoes everyday). Also, she prepared me breakfast and “adobo” my favorite viand. When we were eating, I told her that she may stop doing surprises, but she declined, and said that she will make it a week-long celebration. She really did! Every day of that week, I have different gifts, different breakfast, different lunch that she prepared. It was a very happy birthday celebration after eleven years of ignoring that special day, a very special person made me realize, that I am still special.
The Ring
February 15, it was my birthday, but I have to go to Laguna because I was assigned there. While on my way, the bus was tuned to my favorite radio station. They have this “Tambalan Segment” of the DJs Chris Tsuper and Nicolehiyala. On that segment, listeners can send questions and stories they wanna share and the DJ will read it on-air. I tried to do it, I told the same story, and luckily they chose my story. Even my officemates heard it, too. The two Djs were so “kilig”, and Nicole said that I am so lucky to have a someone special like Emmy. She told that not all girlfriends can do the same thing she did. She even said that finding a single gift for someone special is very hard, what more for a week-long celebration that everyday is a different gift. I was amazed on what Emmy did. I realized how lucky I am.

I wrote this story to surprise Emmy! This is my way of telling her that I appreciate what she did, and I will never forget it for the rest of my life.
