The New Richest Man in the World

After 14 years of being the richest man in the world, Bill Gates no longer holds this top spot. He was beaten by Mexican Tycoon Carlos Slim Helu, the owner of Telecom in Mexico. He ranked third place last year, but now he beat both Gates and Warren Buffett.

Slim have a fortune of $53.5 billion, Gates have a worth of $53 billion, that’s a $500 million difference between the two. Slim’s worth puffed up $18.5 billion in just 12 months, he also earned from America Movil (Latin America’s biggest mobile phone company) where he owns a stake of $23 billion and it was up to 35% in a year.

  • Recently received regulatory approval to merge his fixed-line assets into American Movil, Latin America’s biggest mobile phone company.
  • His construction conglomerate, Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo, builds roads and energy infrastructure.
  • Son of a Lebanese immigrant also owns stakes in financial group Inbursa, Bronco Drilling, Independent News & Media, Saks and New York Times Co.
  • Newspaper outfit’s stock popped in early March on talk he might buy a controlling stake; he denies the rumor.
  • Donating $65 million to fund a research project in genomic medicine with American billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad.

    carlos slim helu the most rich person in the world ????…is not…ferdinand marcos and his family is the riches family in the world… they have $1 trillion (php.45 trillion) or more than 1 trillion………………that source came from presidential commission on good government of the REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES..

    Yes Marcos was the richest man at his time… corruption was the cause of this…

    Although now their family is poor as hell. The government took almost everything they own, saying it was bought from corrution, Which I believe is true.
