What’s Open and What’s Closed on New Year’s Day

It’s New Year’s Day, for Americans this day is a celebration of different festivals, so people go out and enjoy themselves. But if you’re into shopping, better check the local listings in your area, because some stores are closed but some are open but for limited hours only. Several local newspapers and blogs list openings and closings for your convenience, and they’re the best place to check.

Here’s a list provided by Daily Wordl Buzz, for your convenience.

• Walmart, Target Buy and Best Buy (hours may vary)
• Federal, state, county offices and city halls (closed)
• Local and county libraries (closed)
• All the major banks and in-store banks (closed)
• Shopping malls will remain open but according to their hour of choice.
• Schools (closed)
• Grocery stores will remain open but for a shorter time and it may vary from place to place. You would have to contact your local store.
• Trash services (closed) but it will presume the next day.
• Post offices (closed)
• Rail services will be running but on limited schedule. You would have to check your near by rail station.
• Register delivery will also continue for a limited time.
• Retail stores: Open at owner’s discretion.
• Liquor stores: Open.
• Supermarkets: Open.
• Convenience stores: Open.
• Taverns, bars: Open.
• Stock market: Closed.
• MBTA: Subways, buses, trackless trolleys, and commuter rail on Sunday schedule.
• Fairmount, Needham, and Stoughton commuter rail lines closed
• Commuter boat service and inner harbor service closed
